About JavaScript, Cookies and this Website

This website uses JavaScript but does not, at present, use Cookies. The details below about Cookies is just for information?

This website will not operate correctly without JavaScript enabled in your browser.  So what are JavaScript and Cookies?

What is JavaScript?

JavaScript is a programming language that enables interactive & dynamic services to be invoked within websites.  JavaScript, as the name suggests, is a scripting language, meaning that the commands, that are encoded within the web pages, are interpreted and actioned at run-time so there is no need for the written code to be further compiled into the machine code (the "bits & bytes") that a computer understands.  All website browsers have the JavaScript interpreter embedded which can be enabled or disabled.  Almost all but the very plainest of websites use some JavaScript and therefore it is virtually essential to have JavaScript enabled to take full advantage of all the services that a website offers.

This website uses JavaScript for many functions; including frame control, image control and, where used, Cookies.

Enabling JavaScript: To do this:

Internet Explorer: Go to TOOLS/INTERNET OPTIONS/SECURITY/ select Internet Zone and press the 'Default level' button or if you select 'Custom level' ensure Active scripting in the Scripting section is enabled.

Mozilla Firefox: Go to TOOLS/OPTIONS/CONTENT/ and tick 'Enable JavaScript'.

After making these adjustments you may have to reload the page!

Note: The above is only a guide as other browsers and/or versions will have different locations for their Cookie control functions.

What are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files that are stored on your PC by websites and read by websites.  They are commonly used for personalisation, in virtual shopping carts and session control.  Cookies do not normally contain any personal information although they may do where the user has divulged such information to define their preferences whilst surfing a website.  Cookies are not executable and contain no programs; they are not viruses, pop-ups or any other form of malware.  However, they can be used in an unscrupulous manner to track a users use of the Internet and use this information for targeted advertising etc..  In the vast majority of cases Cookies perform a necessary function and are completely harmless.

Enabling Cookies: To do this:

Internet Explorer: Go to TOOLS/INTERNET OPTIONS/PRIVACY/ and move the Slider or press the "Sites" button and add our prime Domain 'www.starguncompany.co.uk' as an accepted exception.

Mozilla Firefox: Go to TOOLS/OPTIONS/PRIVACY/ and in 'History Firefox will: (drop down list)' select 'Use custom settings for history' then tick Accept cookies or press Exceptions button and add our prime Domain 'www.starguncompany.co.uk' as an accepted exception.

After making these adjustments you may have to reload the page!

Note: The above is only a guide as other browsers and/or versions will have different locations for their Cookie control functions.

Further note on Prime Domain & Third Party Cookies:

Prime Domain Cookies are those set by web pages within the Domain you are viewing;
Third-Party Cookies are those set by web pages outside the Domain you are viewing.

For example:
If you reached our website by its prime Domain 'www.starguncompany.CO.UK' (i.e. the Domain where the website is hosted) the Cookies that are set are Prime Domain Cookies;
However:
If you reached the website via 'www.cannonman.ME.UK' (i.e. the Domain that links to where the website is hosted) the Cookies that are set would be considered Third-Party Cookies; (because they are being set by the .CO.UK Domain).

This is significant for browsers in that, when directly accessing 'www.starguncompany.CO.UK', Internet Explorer for example will consider Cookies enabled if set to Medium-High or lower ' and when accessing via 'www.cannonman.ME.UK' Internet Explorer will consider Cookies enabled if set to Low or lower.

Therefore it may be preferable to set your browser to accept Cookies from the prime '.CO.UK' domain irrespective of your general Cookie settings.
